2012 record year for teachers’ compensation payouts

A teaching union has reported record amounts paid out in criminal injury compensation, unfair dismissal and workplace accident compensation last year as a result of incidents at school.

Airport Baggage Handler Wins Accident at Work Claim

The man from Braintree in Essex had worked for Swissport, the air cargo company, for over 10 years when the driver of a buggy crashed into the luggage trolley where he was working, sending him flying backwards and resulting in 3 broken bones in his back.

"He smashed right into the side of the trolley," said the man, "It threw me about five feet in the air and I ended up hitting my back on the bottom of the luggage chute."

A postman has won £7,300 in compensation following collision with Royal Mail Van

The victim was cycling home after a night shift at the Mail Centre when he was struck by the post van. He was taken to hospital where he was treated for a variety of injuries including soft tissue damage and claimed compensation through his union.

Man suffers head and shoulder injuries in work injury at construction site

A contractor at a London construction site has suffered head and shoulder injuries following an accident at work where he was crushed by machinery.  The man was taken to hospital.

It has been reported that the man was crushed by machinery during a tunnelling operation. A spokesman has refused to explain how the worker was injured and gave the statement ‘An incident took place at the Eade Road construction site in Harringay at approximately 6am today.
