A teaching union has reported record amounts paid out in criminal injury compensation, unfair dismissal and workplace accident compensation last year as a result of incidents at school.
The NASUWT won £15.6million to compensation for the effects of accidents, injuries and assaults in 2012.

The man from Braintree in Essex had worked for Swissport, the air cargo company, for over 10 years when the driver of a buggy crashed into the luggage trolley where he was working, sending him flying backwards and resulting in 3 broken bones in his back.
"He smashed right into the side of the trolley," said the man, "It threw me about five feet in the air and I ended up hitting my back on the bottom of the luggage chute."

A contractor at a London construction site has suffered head and shoulder injuries following an accident at work where he was crushed by machinery. The man was taken to hospital.
It has been reported that the man was crushed by machinery during a tunnelling operation. A spokesman has refused to explain how the worker was injured and gave the statement ‘An incident took place at the Eade Road construction site in Harringay at approximately 6am today.
