A former paramedic that lost his leg in a motorbike accident has started a compensation claim that could result in a payout of over £4million.
The rider said the van acted like a guillotine when it sliced off his leg at the thigh in the crash in Walsall.
The 50-year-old could have died if it wasn't for the quick thinking of an off-duty Police officer who applied pressure on the wound until emergency services arrived.
Man in hospital after motorbike accident on rural road

A 39-year-old man has suffered incapacitating injuries after being thrown from his motorbike on a rural country lane.
The rider was air-lifted to a local hospital shortly after the incident where he remains in a critical condition according to a spokesperson from the hospital.
The rider was believed to have been traveling south when he attempted to pass a car in a no-pass zone.
When he tried to re-enter the lane he failed to negotiate the curve and was thrown into the ditch at the side of the road.

A man in his seventies was taken to hospital this week after a motorbike accident in Bideford.
The man suffered neck injuries after coming off his Triumph motorbike in Gammaton Road.
Police, fire and ambulance crews were all called to the scene, where the rider was placed on a spinal board after being treated at the scene by paramedics.
Paisley man in hospital after motorbike crash

A motorbike rider from Paisley was rushed to hospital yesterday after he was injured in a smash in Paisley's West End.
The 25-year-old accident victim was launched from his bike when he collided with a saloon car at around 7:45am.
It is understood that the biker was taken to the Royal Alexandra Hospital in Paisley where he is being treated for hip and wrist injuries.
The rider is believed to have been travelling towards Linwood when the accident happened.
