Blackburn Man Arrested after Assault on Police Officer

Two men from Blackburn have been arrested after a brawl in a pub which resulted in a police officer being punched in the face and knocked to the floor.

Officers were called to the scene after they received a report of group disorder from a pub in the Cherry Tree area.

As police arrived on the scene they said that a group of almost 10 were discovered, throwing bottles and fighting amongst themselves.

“I woke up about half past 12 and saw all the police commotion,” said a resident who lives near to the pub.

“There were blue lights flashing as far as I could see. It was like the illuminations at Blackpool. It’s usually so quiet around here.”

Another resident said, “I heard some shouting around midnight but I didn’t really pay attention. This morning my carer told me there had been a fight in the pub and that people had been throwing glasses at each other. It is shocking.”

The alleged victim of the punch was thought to have fled the scene as officers offered medical attention to their co-worker.

A 28-year-old man has since been arrested in connection with the assault along with another man who was involved in the brawl.

Industry specialist have already said that the policeman could be entitled to a criminal injury compensation claim following the incident.
