Cosmetic Surgery Sees 6% Increase

Experts have reported a 6% increase in the number of people going under the knife between 2010 and 2011.

Data collected by the British Association of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons (BAAPS) said that all types of cosmetic surgery remain popular with no drop in any areas.

Breast enlargements remain the most popular procedure with an increase of 6.2% rising from 9,418 in 2010 to 10,003 in 2011.

A spokesperson from the association said: “It is understandable that procedures for the more noticeable areas of the face and body – such as breast augmentation, rhinoplasty (nose jobs) and eyelid surgery – continue to prove popular when patients are looking to get the most ‘impact’ from their surgery to enhance their mental well being and self-confidence.”

Other treatments that have seen significant growth include tummy tucks, male breast reduction and liposuction.

The figures were collected after the PIP implant scandal unfolded at the beginning of January 2012.

It is thought that around 40,000 British women have received these implants.
