Cyclist left with serious injuries after collision with car

Emergency services were called to an incident at around 11.15 am when a cyclist was dismounted from their bike. The road traffic accident happened on a main road and Police closed the road both ways to allow the cyclist to receive treatment and also to allow an air ambulance to land.
A police spokesman confirmed: “We are currently dealing with a serious road traffic collision,

“We were called to the scene just after 11.15am to reports of a collision between a car and a cyclist,

“The cyclist is reported to have suffered serious head injuries.

“The road has been closed in both directions as emergency crews deal with the incident.

“Motorists are being advised to avoid the area if possible and we would like to thank drivers for their patience.”

The cyclist was rushed to hospital and remains there whilst their injuries are treated. It is not known at this stage whether the injuries are life threatening.

The driver of the other vehicle was unhurt but in shock.
