Demolition company fined after worker is seriously injured

A North West based demolition company has been fined thousands of pounds after one of its workers was crushed in an accident.

The company was removing a two-tier stand when part of it collapsed and fell on the man working below.

The 33-year-old, who has requested that his name stay unknown, sustained multiple serious injuries when a two-tonne concrete slab landed on his work vehicle.

The injuries included multiple fractures to both legs and severe cuts and bruises.

After the accident was reported it was investigated by the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) which resulted in the prosecution of the man’s employer.

They were fined £5,000 and ordered to pay £12,000 in compensation.

“The excavator driver was lucky not to have been killed when the two-tonne concrete slab collapsed onto his cab.

“His life was put in danger because [company name] didn’t plan the work properly.”
