Dental negligence compensation claim reaches High Court

A 58 year old woman from the North West is taking legal action against her dentist after he failed to diagnose cancer, instead recommending management of the complaint with mouthwash.

The woman first visited the dentist regarding the problem in June 2008, but was not referred to hospital for almost a year, by which time she had seriously invasive cancer.

She underwent a programme of treatment and surgery to remove the affected areas, which included her lymph nodes, and then underwent a course of radiotherapy and chemotherapy.

The woman is now making a good recovery. She is taking her compensation claim to the high court stating that the dentist was negligent to have not spotted the cancer and that he should have referred her to hospital sooner.

The dentist denies that he is at fault. If you have been a victim of dental negligence, you could be entitled to compensation.
