Hay bale crushes farm worker

A farm worker was seriously injured after a bale fell off a tractor onto him seriously injuring his legs and back.

The worker, believed to be in his 30’s, was trapped for some time whilst the emergency services were called. Paramedics tended to the man but had to summon the fire service to help remove the bail from the man’s lower torso. It took ten firefighters 40 minutes to free the man from the bale.

Shortly after being released, he was airlifted to hospital with suspected crushing injuries from the falling hay bale. He received for treatment for non-life threatening injuries to his leg and back.

A spokesman said: “At 3.50pm on Wednesday, we received a call from the ambulance service.

“They did not have the manpower to remove the bale from the victim.

“Crews manually removed the bale to free the man, who was then flown by air ambulance ..Hospital … for treatment.

“He suffered some sort of crush injuries, which were not life-threatening.”
