Police were called to an incident on the M1 southbound motorway in the early hours of the morning, around 04:55.

Emergency services were called to the scene where there had been a collision between two HGV’s. An articulated HGV had ran into the back of another one where traffic slows for road works.

One of the drivers has been seriously injured as a result of the crash and he was treated at the scene and taken by ambulance to the Northern General Hospital in Sheffield where he is currently receiving further treatment.

The other lorry driver is not thought to hurt.

The M1 motorway was closed for several hours after the accident while police investigate the crash scene and they are calling for any witnesses to the accident to contact them.
