Man injured after gang attack in Southend

A man from Southend has been injured when he was set upon by a gang as he walked through Basildon.

The incident is thought to have happened at around 1am on Saturday October 13.

Police are treating the attack, which happened outside the Big Q shops in Whitemore Way, as unprovoked.

The 36-year-old victim from Basildon suffered cuts and bruises to his face and shoulders and was taken to Basildon Hospital for treatment.

A spokesperson from the local Police force said, “This assault caused the man to lose consciousness and memory of the event. Nothing was stolen from him so it makes the incident even more disturbing and confusing.

“We have had some witnesses to the event come forward, but none can offer any descriptions on the assailants. We know there were others in the area who have yet to come forward. We would urge them to do so.”

Criminal injury compensation specialists have already suggested that the attack victim could be entitled to a payout for the incident, if substantial evidence could be obtained.

Anyone with information on the attack has been asked to call the investigating officers at Basildon police station on 101.
