Man seriously injured after hitting stationary vehicle

A 44 year old man has been rushed to hospital via air ambulance after suffering serious injuries following a collision with a stationary car.

The accident happened at around 12.25pm on a busy A road when the  white Mercedes van, driven by the casualty, hit a black Audi estate car which had broken down on the inside lane of the carriageway.
The Audi estate had its hazard lights on and the driver was waiting outside the car for vehicle rescue.  Because the Audi driver was not in the car at the time of impact, she escaped serious injury as a result of the crash.
The injured man was assessed by paramedics at the scene and was quickly moved to the General Hospital by air ambulance due to the serious nature of his injuries.
Police are appealing for witnesses to the incident to come forward to try and piece together why the collision happened.
