Mum-of-two wins 7 figure sum following medical negligence glaim

A mother of two has won a multi-million pound settlement from the Queen Elizabeth Hospital after a routine operation left her paralysed.

The woman was recovering following the operation when a junior doctor damaged the nerves in her spinal cord during a follow-up procedure.

A few days later the sporty and active beauty therapist was told she would be paralysed for the rest of her life. She has since had to give up work and is now confined to a wheelchair. The seven-figure sum was awarded after the University Hospital Birmingham NHS Foundation Trust admitted responsibility.

“I was told that I would never be able to ride a bike with my two sons, play football with them, run, or kickbox again. I was devastated,” said said the woman.

A spokesman for the trust said: ‘‘As a Trust we always strive to deliver the best quality care and in this case that was not achieved. For that we apologise. The Trust ensures that any mistakes reported to us are thoroughly investigated to determine the underlying cause so that we can reduce the risk of them happening again.’’
