One in eight have Botox administered by untrained friend or acquaintance

A survey of 2,000 people has found that one in eight people who have had cosmetic treatments such as dermal fillers or Botox had the procedure carried out by someone untrained.

The Government aims to review the industry as a result of growing concern that “cosmetic cowboys” without medical training are able to practice unchecked.

The survey found that 13 per cent of those undergoing treatments such as dermal fillers and chemical peels have been treated by untrained friends or acquaintances and an worryingly one in 20 had administered such procedures themselves!

Ministers have said they intend to strengthen regulation of the £2 bn industry, with plans due to be announced within weeks. Prof Sir Bruce Keogh, Britain’s most senior doctor has called for tougher controls on who can offer such treatments and said certain products should become prescription-only.
