Pedestrian seriously injured in hit and run

A woman in her early 50’s has been rushed to hospital after being knocked down by a vehicle. The accident happened in the afternoon at around 1.48 pm when emergency services including paramedics, ambulance crews and police were called to the scene.

Roads were closed in both directions as paramedics tended to the injured woman. Whilst she has severe injuries they were not deemed to be life threatening and he was taken to hospital for further treatment where condition is being described as ‘serious but stable’.

The driver of the car and his male passenger both left the scene by foot but have now arrested and are being questioned in custody.

An ambulance spokesperson said: “We sent multiple resources to the scene, including an incident response officer .

“We treated a woman on scene for major injuries and took her to … Hospital.”

Witnesses are being asked to come forward to help with Police enquiries.
