Scaffold fall in workplace results in catastrophic injuries

A scaffold firm has been fined £26,250, after pleading guilty to offences under Regulation 4(1) of the Work at Height Regulations 2005.

The HSE investigated the incident after a worker’s fall from the scaffold lead to life-changing head injuries. The employee fell 9 metres off the scaffold seriously injuring himself whilst he was disassembling the scaffold.

The Magistrates Court heard how the HSE’s investigation found that the scaffold firm had no safety measures in place to prevent a fall from height when dismantling the scaffold poles.

A Health and Safety inspector said: “If the company had managed a safe system of work with properly trained and equipped scaffolders, then the employee would not have suffered such terrible injuries.”
