Sheffield man injured in motorbike accident with police car

A motorbike rider from Sheffield has been left injured after he was knocked off his bike in a collision with a police car. 

The rider was travelling along Penistone Road when he was involved in a smash with the police vehicle at about 10:50am. 

South Yorkshire Police said that their car was responding to an incident at the time of the accident. 

The road was closed in both directions while paramedics dealt with the motorcyclist and firefighters made sure that both the vehicles were safe. 

The Force confirmed that the accident has been reported to the Independent Police Complaints Commission for investigation.

“It is believed that a police car was responding to an incident and was travelling along Penistone Road, Sheffield, when it was involved in a collision with a motorbike,” said a spokesperson from South Yorkshire Police.

“The motorbike rider’s injuries are not thought to be life threatening at this time.”
