Two Derbyshire Companies Fined over Work Accidents

Two companies in Derbyshire are paying out heavy fines after separate work accidents at their smelting works.

Both the incidents occurred at HJ Enthoven Ltd, a company based near Matlock. 

The first of the two work accidents happened to a 43-year-old employee in August 2010. The main, who wants to remain anonymous, suffered severe burns following and explosion at the site. 

The second accident happened to a 27-year-old Key Engineering employee in May 2010. The man, who also wants to remain unnamed, suffered severe crush injuries while investigating a fault on an overhead travelling crane. 

The HSE carried out intense investigations after the accidents were reported and found that in both cases, the two companies had failed to provide sufficient risk assessments.

Key Engineering Ltd, who are based in Chesterfield were fined £5,000 with an additional £2,305 in costs. 

HJ Enthoven Ltd in Matlock also pleaded guilty to breaching Health and Safety at Work atcs and were consequently fined £5000 for the crush incident and £10,000 for the incident which led to the explosion.
