Van collides with cyclist on busy A road

A cyclist has been seriously injured following a collision with van on a busy A road. The accident happened at approximately 7.45 am during rush hour and Police closed the roads to allow for emergency services to attend to the injured cyclist.

The accident happened next to a junction and involved a 27 year old van driver and a woman in her 40’s.

An ambulance service spokesperson confirmed that the cyclist was injured but not with life threatening or life changing injuries. The driver was not hurt.

“A woman in her 40s had leg injuries, ankle injuries, was conscious and given pain relief. She also had arm and shoulder injuries.”

She was taken to hospital for further treatment by a rapid response vehicle.

The road has been closed as Police investigate the accident but they have arrested a man on suspicion of driving under the influence of drugs after failing a drugs test.
