Woodpecker could hold secret to preventing brain injuries

Scientists have revealed that they think woodpeckers hold the secret to reducing brain injuries in future.
The research suggests that the shape of a woodpeckers head could be adapted to helmet design to improve its strength.

Experts conducted research after realising that woodpeckers hammer tree-trucks all day long but fail to develop any brain injuries. This is because of the unique cranial bones and beak structure which they believe could be applied to helmet design.

Several birds were filmed using specialist cameras, from which a 3D models were created and tested.
